Transit President Andy Byford says improving accessibility is one of his top priorities for the city's subways and buses.

To that end, he's appointed the MTA's very first Accessibility Chief, Alex Elegudin.

A man with a spinal cord injury had been a nursing home for 15 years. When disability rights advocate Alex Elegudin asked why he hadn't gotten out, he responded that he'd been told that for quadriplegia "there is no such thing as 24 hour home care." Independence Care System (ICS) changed that - now he's living life in the community!
